Buying flight tickets is an art and a
challenge. Who can find the cheapest deal? There are lots of deals out there
and there is not one specific place where they are the cheapest. Generally
going to the actual Airlines website is not the cheapest although if you are
a regular flyer and have signed up to an airlines Frequent Flyer program
this will not be the case. |

First decision is where to fly from?
Well we live in Somerset and although the cheapest flights can usually be
found from Gatwick you may want to consider flying from Bristol. Flights are
not direct at the moment, you fly via New York but the change of planes
there is straightforward and your luggage is checked straight through. You
arrive in Orlando about 2hrs later than when you fly from Gatwick. Prices
are about £40 more from Bristol but that can easily be taken up by car
parking/coach/train fares when going from Gatwick. Another nice thing about
using your local airport is you are home in bed sometimes less than a hour
after you land! You don't have to park at Bristol as your friends can drop
you off/pick you up. First Choice do now Fly from Bristol
once a week into Sanford Orlando. |

Charter Flights or
Scheduled? |
|
Charter Flights Less
choice with chartered. Flights will probably be Saturday to Saturday or
Tuesday to Tuesday. Maybe only from a few airports. Leg room may be
restricted. Baggage will definitely be resticted(20kg as opposed to 30kg on
non charter flights). Most things are charged for (headphones, drinks)
reduced meal choice, maybe no choice. Some flights do not even have in
flight videos. The upside is it may well be cheaper and this is obviously a
major factor if you want 8 seats! but beware of Fly Drives. You don't get
something for nothing. Flight and free car hire? yes the car is free but
what is the insurance. Don't pay more than £180 a week for a mid size car
which will include multiple drivers and a full tank of fuel and "gold level
insurance cover" (top level) Check out the Car Hire webpage for information
on that subject. All we can say is we "never" do a "Fly Drive" it has always
been cheaper to do it individually. On Charter Flights you will be flying
with people like "Airtours" "Thomas Cook" "Air 2000" etc. Charter flights
land exclusively at Orlando Sanford Airport. Don't be put off by this. It is
an excellent airport and only maybe another 20 minutes drive
down the Toll Road from the villa. |

Scheduled Flights. More
choice, daily direct flights from all over the world, better leg room, meal
choices, free drinks, personal TV screens on some flights. But can be more
expensive. Fly into Orlando International Airport. The choice is yours. |

Fly from Bristol via New York to
Orlando. If you fly with Continental then the Frequent Flyer Program means
you get about a free flight every 6 flights. We have had good experiences
with the airline. Prices on their website are PLUS TAX don't forget that when
looking for the best deal. |

Flights from Gatwick and Manchester
direct to Orlando. Not often the cheapest but do have some good deals
sometimes. Good service usually. Frequent Flyer Program means you get a free
flight with every 6 or so you buy. So if you are going to be a regular
visitor well worth considering. |

As First Choice fall into
the category of "Charter Flights" please read the notes above. Can be good
value. Flights land at Sanford Airport. According to the First Choice
website they give you a choice of meals. Your own 7" TV screen and 33"
legroom. Pretty good value if its all correct. They quote an example that
British Airways offer 31" of legroom. Have
started a once a week flight from "our" local airport, Bristol. We have yet
to try them as dates have not suited us. Prices avoiding the peak times seem
very reasonable. |
